Flexibility and Perseverance: When the Plan Breaks

Flexibility and perseverance are essential in a dynamic world. It is easy to perform when everything goes according to plan, but true character is revealed when it doesn’t. My recent experience with the Hyrox competition in Rotterdam perfectly illustrates this.

In October, I set myself a clear and ambitious goal: participating in Hyrox and pushing my physical limits to set a top time. I was in the flow, determined to crush it. However, as often happens in life—and in business—reality threw a curveball.

A severe tendon injury followed by a hernia operation forced me to face a hard truth: my original plan was no longer viable. I had two choices: quit entirely, or radically revise my strategy.

I chose the latter. Instead of focusing on the clock and a personal record, I shifted the emphasis to recovery, technical execution, and completing the competition without further damage. It required a different kind of discipline—the discipline to hold back.

With the right guidance and an adjusted battle plan, I achieved my goal. I crossed the finish line in Rotterdam, not with a record time, but proud and unscathed.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson that applies to every aspect of my work as a Multipotentialite. The ability to adjust goals and overcome setbacks is crucial. It’s not always about sticking to the original spreadsheet or the initial roadmap; it’s about achieving a successful result in the long term, even if the path there looks different than you imagined.

Adapt. Adjust. Finish.
