Fresh Lens on a Broken Plan
Plans are meant to be rewritten. I’ve been on this journey for a while, yet I’m still learning to adjust my course every single day. Life is dynamic; the real art doesn’t lie in stubbornly holding your course, but in navigating the waves of change.
When I signed up for Hyrox Rotterdam, I had a clear goal. But reality had other ideas. Just like last year, the path between registration and the starting line took an unexpected turn. This time, a bacterial infection dealt a heavy blow to my stamina.
At a moment like that, you can blindly stare at your original plan, or you can face reality and adapt. I chose the latter.
I decided to run the race with my wife. The mission shifted: no longer chasing the fastest time, but crossing the finish line together, completely intact. That required genuine teamwork. Lifting each other up when it got tough, but also keeping a close eye on each other’s physical limits.
After an hour and forty-five minutes of grinding, we crossed the finish line side by side. Completely wrecked, but incredibly proud. Conquering the ego is often a far greater victory than beating the clock.
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” – Charles Darwin
Bending to what a situation requires is my default setting—in sports and in life. As a multipotentialite, I wear many hats. It is precisely this interplay between my roles as a transformation manager, photographer, and coach that allows me to view problems through different lenses.
Whenever a situation feels rigid or deadlocked, a fresh perspective gets things moving again. Not by forcing the issue, but by choosing the right lens and moving fluidly with what is actually needed in that moment.
Because it’s only when you stop fighting the circumstances that you create room for real progress.
Navigate. Adapt. Grow.
